How is the eyelid surgery - eyelid blepharoplasty done?

The eyelid surgery itself is done under local anesthesia. Both upper and lower eyelids can be operated at the same time. If the upper eyelids are operated the incision is done in the groove of the eyelid. If the lower eyelids are operated the incision is done in the area close to eyelashes so the scar is less visible.
 

After eyelid surgery

The process of convalescence is strictly individual. Everything depends on the capability of patient’s body to recover and healing and on strict obeying of the recommendations made by the surgeon. Cold and wet compresses should be applied at home and fixing with the help of elastic bandage should be done. The very first day after the plastic surgery eyelids have to be perfectly protected so it is necessary to use elastic bandage. After 3-5 days stitches are removed and two weeks after the surgery pressure massage is recommended. Smoking decreases the recovery time needed drastically.
 

Risks related to eyelid surgery

The most common complication that may occur because of not obeying the recommendations made by the surgeon is that with every attempt to close an eye skin can be dragged so the eye can not be closed without problems and pain. As stated above to avoid such complications it is vital to obey the recommendations made by the surgeon. Another complication that can occur is subcutaneous hematoma but this is very temporal because the hematoma will be absorbed. Last but not least complication can be infection, longer recovery time and so on.
