Types of abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is a procedure leading to the flattening of a belly. For achieving the best effect, removal of excess fat and excess skin or strengthening abdominal muscles is used. The abdominoplasty can bring a completely different appearance of the original belly.

Division of abdominoplasty

The classical abdominoplasty is an operation that takes on average two hours of time because the removal of the sagging skin and excess fat as well as straightening the muscles is not a simple procedure.

In terms of intensity, the abdominoplasty is divided into several groups called:

  • Complete abdominoplasty
  • Partial abdominoplasty
  • Modified abdominoplasty

Complete abdominoplasty

The complete abdominoplasty is usually done together with a liposuction of hips and lower abdomen, so that is the reason that the procedure takes at least two hours of time. Integral part of a complete abdominoplasty often takes a removal of subcutaneous fat. In this case there is a long incision in the lower abdomen used.

Partial abdominoplasty

Partial abdominoplasty, called as well as miniabdominoplasty, is suitable for patients who are having subcutaneous fat in the lower part of a belly. This plastic surgery takes one hour of time and is not suitable for patients with a big amount of undesirable fat. The advantage of abdominoplasty is a shorter scar.

Upside-down partial abdominoplasty

The upside-down partial abdominoplasty also exists. It is characterized by the removal of fat in the upper part of a belly. It depends on the plastic surgeon which type of an abdominoplasty is the most suitable for each patient.

Modified abdominoplasty

Modified abdominoplasty is a moderate difficult procedure when comparing with previous types of abdominoplasty. This procedure is particularly suitable for patients with fatty overhangs or sagging abdominal wall near the navel. Comparing to the complex abdominoplasty, the scar is not that long.

Operation of abdominal wall

The abdominal wall, which is a part of an abdominal sculpture, is divided into several parts according to the fact where it is being operated.

We distinguish:

  • Reduction of skin and fat in the lower abdomen
  • Reduction of skin and fat in the whole abdomen
  • Reduction of skin and fat including direct abdominal muscles

Reduction of skin and fat in the lower abdomen

In this case skin and fat is removed in the part of the lower abdomen. This aesthetic plastic surgery is used when there is a bigger amount of fat in the lower part of the abdomen. The scar is in this case hidden in the lowest part of the belly.

Reduction of skin and fat in the whole abdomen

If the whole belly is covered by a big amount of fat, there is a reduction of skin and fat from the whole abdomen made. This procedure is the most complicated and may cause some small scars almost everywhere in the whole abdomen.

Reduction of skin and fat including direct abdominal muscles

The abdominoplasty may also include a sculpture of abdominal muscles. In this case, there is a reduction of a gap between the straight belly muscles done, which causes the appearance of a thrust belly. Excess skin is removed and even the bellybutton is moved.
