Beginnings of Hair transplant in Japan
A history of hair transplant in Japan reaches to the war period, to be more concrete to the times before Second World War. In that time first quite successful experiments in Japan were made by a Japanese dermatologist Dr.Shoji Okuda.
First Hair transplant
Dr. Okuda performed first hair transplant in 1930 using healthy dermatic hair follicles taken from back of the patient’s head and subsequently put in harmed area. Unfortunately his job was for few decades forgotten and stopped because of Second World War. Therefore a development of hair transplant noticed significant dumping.
Hair transplant in the USA
In the USA first experiments with a newer method of transferring dermatic scions were performed also before Second World War. However the process of hair transplant was described in detail as late as the fifties and sixties by a dermatologist Dr.Normal Orentreich in the USA.
Transplantation of Big Hair Scions
Professor Orentreich transplanted dermatic scions at the size of 4 mm that contented 10 to 20 hair folliculars at the beginning.
He confirmed a claim, that hair scions which are transferred during the hair transplant from another side of head can grow again in the harmed area and that they keep characteristics of healthy growing hair (they are not liable to androgynous hair loss anymore).
With this knowledge a term “donator domination” had occurred.
Disadvantages of transplantation of big hair scions
Dr. Orentreich´ s hair transplant method was commonly used all around the World for couple of years. However no real result was achieved during sixties and seventies; it was just a head which looked like a doll or a closet brush, just an impression of artificial hair.
Development of hair transplant in 60th – 80th
In 80th big scions were replaced by a method of miniscions and microscions. Thanks to this method a reputation of hair transplant was recovered. Nowadays we use a method with microscions with 1-4 hair.
Transplantation of follicular elements
In 1995 a new method, so called a transplantation of follicular, came up (FUT - follicular unit hair transplantation). This method came from a knowledge that hair does not grow separately but in groups that contains four terminal hair, one to two velus hair, with sebaceous glands, neurovascular plexus, musculus arrector pili and perifolliculum, which connects the element.
A transfer of these follicular elements enables to reach the results which evoke the natural hair growth. Therefore we consider this method of hair transplant as the most suitable one.
Method of hair transplant – FUT – successfully preformed in Inter clinic
